Qatar Al Thumama Stadium

Design
Introduction
Qatar Al Thumama Stadium is a newly built stadium to host 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ where it will welcome 40,000 excited football fans for matches up to the quarter-final match. The mass and façade design was inspired by the traditional woven cap known in Qatar as the 'Gahfiya' and the stadium was designed with the images of floating from the ground in order to emphasize the lightness and transparency. Moreover, through this floating gap, the crowd will be easily access to the stadium as well as participate actively in the World Cup events. Considering the desert climate in Qatar, all the spectator seating and fields have built a state of the art cooling system for the athletes as well as spectators.
After the tournament in 2020, the stadium will be reduced into a 20,000-seater stadium and the excess seats will be removed and converted to the home stadiums for the two local football clubs. In addition, the upper tier of the stadium will be removed and transformed into a house boutique hotel capacity of 60 keys as well as clinic for the athletes.
Meanwhile, with its successful design and CM experience in domestic and overseas including Baku Olympic Stadium, Incheon 2014 Asian Games Main Stadium, Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympic Games Gangneung Ice Arena (Ice Skating Stadium for Figure Skating and Short Track), Heerim will design the Qatar Al Thumama Stadium as the world’s best FIFA World Cup Stadium.
Heerim has once again proven its world-class design competitiveness in the sports facilities through winning Qatar Al Thumama Stadium.
