Design competition for Northern Branch of Incheon District Court which will be established at Geomdan New city of Incheon was conducted under its goal to provide the local citizen affinity through its architectural aesthetic design at exterior of the government office building with convenient one-stop administrative service. Hence, Heerim planned ‘National Court that embraces Light’, spreading light by resonating with Geomdan New city. Heerim won the contract with highly rated proposal including three main design strategies to incarnate the design concept; establishing a court that communicates with local community as city hub, a court that friendly comes toward to the citizens through opened public spaces with bright lighting at its law court, and a trustworthy court with balanced and open government. First of all, public area and public pedestrian path at each side of the main entrance square were connected closely to make the court communicate well with local citizens. Secondly, lighting system that brings natural gleam into indoor spaces created comfortable atmosphere of the court as well as overccoming the limited natural lighting conditions of original courts.
