- Introduction
- HD Hyundai Global R&D Center is aimed to provide the best working environment and fulfill the energy-saving eco-friendly building, as an integrated office facility where 5,000 researchers and supporting manpowers from all 17 affiliates of HD Hyundai. The all embracing design concept of this project is “Smart Cube, Smart Void, Smart Grid”. “Smart Cube” is embodied as a symbolic and intensive cube mass design. All faces in each direction become the front of the building, and the elevation strategy of minimizing the exterior area enables to save the energy. “Smart Void” is an eco-friendly courtyard created by vertically vacating the central part of the building. It becomes a ventilation and sunlighting path to reduce illumination and air conditioning energy. Moreover, office rooms on all floors can be seen each other through a courtyard, therefore, the employees can use a space for communication and collaboration. “Smart Grid” means an out-frame design that exposes the main structural steel frame to the outside. This structural design strategy maximizes the efficiency of the interior space without columns, and is effective in controlling the indoor temperature with a function to block solar radiation. In addition, above all, it is designed to realize the identity of HD Hyundai, which has grown into a global company along with steel, through a structure-integrated design. In addition to applying ceiling radiant cooling/heating system and chilled beams for energy saving, DC (Direct Current) distribution method is introduced for the first time to increase power efficiency by receiving DC power from KEPCO (Korea Electric Power Corporation). The HD Hyundai Global R&D Center is a high-end office building where technologies for energy saving and state-of-the-art smart office infrastructure are integrated in one place, and it is expected to become a space of innovation and creation that leads the prosperous future of HD Hyundai.
