Introduction
The project aims to foster a 21st century marine science education base in connection with the marine science cluster by constructing the "Integrated National Maritime Science Education Center", which combines education, exhibition and experience functions of specialized marine areas utilizing characteristics of the East Sea coast and deep sea. The total project cost is 104.5 billion KRW, and the land area is 111,000㎡ with G.F.A of 12,345㎡. The ocean observation deck, which is installed on the sea at a distance of about 400m from the site of the National Maritime Education Center, is 2450 tons in weight and 26.25m in height which is equivalent to the height of 9 stories apartment building. It is designed to take a view of the sea from 11m above sea level and can overlook 6m down to the sea. In the vicinity of the underwater observatory, artificial fishes will be installed to create sea forests, and a variety of attractions will be provided by planning sculptures such as whales and Dokdo eared seal, which are symbols of the East Sea. Inside the observatory, various underwater images are posted, and underwater virtual reality (VR) experience programs are conducted.
