Introduction
New Phnom Penh International Airport is a newly planned airport for the capital city of Cambodia, Phnom Penh. The new airport site is located in Kandal Province, approximately 30-40km to the south of Phnom Penh. New Phnom Penh International Airport is a large international airport with four floors and 22 gates, capable of accommodating around 13 to 15 million passengers and approximately 175,000 tons of cargo annually. According to the Client, Cambodia Airport Investment Co., Ltd (CAIC), the Phase 1 construction is 50% complete as of July 2023, and it is expected to be fully operational by the first half of 2025. The ultimate goal is to create a greenfield airport with three parallel runways and amenity facilities covering a total area of 2,600 hectares. Upon completion of all three phases of development, the airport will be able to accommodate up to 50 million passengers. In December 2021, the Cambodian Prime Minister announced the name of the airport as "Techo Takhmao" during a site visit. The word "Techo" is derived from Cambodian history, referencing titles given to courageous military commanders Techo Meas and Techo York, who were active in the Kandal Province region in the past. Thus, the name "Techo Takhmao International Airport" reflects deep respect for the long history, valiant traditions, and cultural heritage of Cambodia. As of August 2023, Heerim has about 100 experts and staff engaged in Construction Management, and in July, an additional Project Management Consultant (PMC) service contract was signed.
