Expansion of Gimhae International Airport
Design
- Introduction
- The Gimhae International Airport Terminal was experiencing severe congestion, approaching a level that significantly impacted service quality due to the rapid growth of low-cost carriers. To address the increasing demand before the new airport opened, operational improvements were implemented based on a 2017 study. However, ongoing passenger growth necessitated a facility expansion. The project site is situated between Gimhae and Busan on the Nakdong River. By connecting with the nearby developing eco-city, Eco Delta City, the project aims to contribute to regional economic revitalization and enhance national competitiveness. The goal is to efficiently and economically accommodate the growing demand for international passengers at Gimhae Airport until the new airport opens, while also considering post-utilization. The layout plan was developed to seamlessly integrate with the existing terminal, using compatible architectural forms, materials, and design elements. An appropriate distance was maintained to ensure a pleasant environment. The project prioritizes economical material planning and environmentally conscious design to facilitate facility expansion and integration with the surrounding area.
