Design
- Introduction
- The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam, located within the diplomatic complex in Hanoi, was a project undertaken through a design competition, driven by the firm determination to create a "the best government office building embodying the soul of nations of Korea". The concept of 'identity' was a central focus during the embassy's design process. Traditional elements of Korean architecture were metaphorically represented, blending modernity to reinterpret "Koreanness." The exterior wall lines were curved to echo the graceful curves seen in traditional roof lines, ensuring the sense of curvature is felt even in the absence of a traditional roof structure. The exterior design of the embassy incorporated the elegance of traditional Korean window grille and lattice pattern, harmoniously blending yin and yang elements. This thoughtful integration allowed the light that passed through the exterior facade to create patterns inside the interior spaces. By meticulously planning this interplay of light and shadow, the harmony between yin and yang was palpable within the interior, enhancing the overall atmosphere and aesthetics of the embassy. The design also featured an interplay of voids in both indoor and outdoor spaces, incorporating courtyard concepts (atriums), and arranging large windows (lattice patterns) in a regular pattern to achieve a sense of balance and harmony. Receiving praise from visitors, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam serves as an excellent example of enhancing Korea's image through design. It stands as a testament to elevate our nation's prestige and contribute significantly to diplomatic activities with other countries.
