Introduction
Heerim Architects & Planners, a global architectural firm, has signed a contract for the design service of the “Comprehensive Improvement and Renewal of Incheon International Airport Terminal 1”. Incheon International Airport Corporation conducted a design competition for the comprehensive improvement project from February to April of this year, and after evaluation by a committee, the proposal of the Heerim Consortium (Heerim, Keunjeong) has been selected as the winner. This project aims to extensively renovate and improve the facilities of Terminal 1, which has been in use since the opening of Incheon International Airport in 2001. It involves replacing aging facilities, enhancing functionality, comprehensively improving operational facilities, and introducing advanced facilities, thereby transforming Terminal 1 into an eco-friendly and cutting-edge smart airport. Airport projects are a special design field with high entry barriers, requiring top-level standard of sophisticated technology and know-how. Therefore, the role of an architectural firm possessing both technical capabilities and experience is crucial.
