Introduction
Techo International Airport (TIA) in Cambodia is a greenfield airport in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, and is the country's largest national strategic infrastructure project, built to meet the increasing air travel demand in Cambodia. Located on a site about 20km south of central Phnom Penh, it is a 4F-Class international airport capable of handling super-large aircraft. The Phase 1 new airport, which commenced commercial operations on September 9th, features one 4km runway, a passenger terminal spanning 4 floors above ground and 1 basement floor, and 20 gates. It is capable of handling approximately 15 million passengers and 175,000 tons of cargo annually. The total site area is about 2,600ha, and the plan calls for accommodating 50 million passengers with three 4km runways upon completion of the total three phases of development. The passenger terminal was designed by the British architectural firm Foster + Partners, while the control tower was directly designed by Heerim. Heerim served as the PMC (Project Management Consultant) from the initial contract in October 2019 until July 2025, overseeing all aspects including design review, construction management, and overall quality, safety, and cost management.
Especially, key figures such as Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, CAIC Chairman Pung Kheav Se, and Heerim Chairman Jeong Young Kyoon attended the official inauguration ceremony held on October 20, 2025, symbolically representing TIA's national status and international significance.
