The Sogok-dong Church showcases Heerim's modern and intricate design capabilities in religious architecture. The primary objective of this project was to break away from the typical church design framework and create a new, contemporary church that aligns with the demands of the times. The architectural theme of the Sogok-dong Church revolves around Light, Sharing, and Mission, and Heerim has seamlessly integrated these three meanings into the new sanctuary. Firstly, "Light" is designed to reveal the inherent and transcendent qualities of religious architecture. The design aims to fill the church with the light of life and joy, creating a "Luminous Church" where visitors feel uplifted and cheerful. Particularly in the Grand sanctuary, wooden louvers are installed to prevent the warm light from stained glass from flooding in immediately. Instead, as one walks forward, turning around reveals an unexpected celebration of light creating a unique and enchanting experience. "Sharing" is designed to foster fellowship that encompasses the daily lives of the congregation, meaning a sense of community that encompasses all aspects of believers' lives. The church is optimized for wedding masses, creating a "Sharing Church" where various beautiful courtyards facilitate encounters between the local community, the church, parishioners, and clergy. Lastly, "Mission" is designed to involve breaking away from the typicality of church spaces and creating a versatile environment that encapsulates various educational functions and missionary activities. Sogok-dong Church successfully encapsulates religious elements while standing out as an architectural marvel with its modern design and the architect's meticulous attention.
